Projekt Luma is the culmination of our long-standing fascination with the intersection of science, art, and immersive storytelling. Both myself and Xavier Perkins have an extensive background in audiovisual storytelling, initially as pioneering VJs in the 80s/90s/00s and then as content creators /designers/ editors/technicians for numerous AV productions up to the present day. Throughout this journey we have always had visions of creating our own productions, and always paid close attention to other artists working in similar territories. As a result we are particularly aware of the potential and power of audiovisual narrative, especially when used in combination with live performance, immersive technologies and environmental installations. Having spent years developing ideas we eventually found space in our busy lives to conduct 2 full R+D sessions at the Old Market in Brighton in 2015 and 2017.

After this the project evolved from a more conventional theatre production to the current immersive walk-through experience. The full scale format of the experience is ambitious - spanning 8 environments, approx 45 minute total duration, repeating every hour for 6 hours a day - but one we have seen working successfully elsewhere and will adapt to our needs. Since 2017 we have worked numerous development sessions at each of our studios or in larger hired spaces. The upcoming residency at Fabrica will mark a major milestone in the project, bringing in collaborators and solidifying the foundations of both Ultravision:X and us as Projekt Luma.

We now have a shared conviction that immersive audiovisual storytelling can be a wonderful thing, and a journey across the Electromagnetic Spectrum is the perfect starting point to inspire others with a compelling mix of science, art and spectacle. Immersive experiences are now an established entertainment format with wide demographic appeal. Ultravision:X will become the first major production for Projekt Luma, one that will embolden us and amplify our growth both as artists and creative entrepreneurs.
